Dear Families,
First, I want to thank all the families and students who have sent kind words to the staff during teacher appreciation week. The staff is working very hard to provide engaging learning, as well as opportunities for students to interact with peers in a virtual setting. Your kind words are valued.
We will not be returning to school this year: The governor will be signing an executive order that will close schools for the rest of this school year. We know that the safety of the community is most important, but we are all sad that the students will not be returning to us this year.
- We have been planning for multiple ends to the school year, and as a result of the governor's order, some of our choices have become more limited. We enjoy celebrating the students' successes at the conclusion of the school year, and we will continue to find ways to do this in a safe manner. This is especially important for our grade 8 students who have been with us for five years at OSMS.
- We are working on our recovery plans to address students' academic and social-emotional needs upon our eventual return to school. These considerations include but are not limited to summer school, learning about next year's team of teachers, and assessment to plan for instruction. There will be a meeting with the commissioner of education tomorrow for school leaders. More guidance may come from this meeting.
- We know many students have items in their lockers. At this time, we are not allowing community members in the building. We will communicate a plan for students to be able to gather their things when we are sure we have a plan that we can execute safely.
- Please reach out with questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Grade 5 Families: We know many students are participating in Google Meets with their classroom teachers, and we would like to expand on our offerings by having a weekly drop-in session run by Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Diaz for any interested 5th grader. We hope that by providing this opportunity, students from across the grade level will get a chance to connect with one another. The weekly drop-in sessions will be held on Mondays at 11:00 and will use the Google Meet code Grade5DropIn. We hope all is well, and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Grade 6-8 families: Please encourage students to join google meets and office hours with teachers. These meets offer students opportunities to connect with peers and staff. See the team homework pages for days and times.
Meal pick up at OSHS: If you pick up meals at the high school, you will now enter the parking lot from route one and then drive around the back of the building for pick up.
