Good Afternoon,

The students have continued to do a great job following safety protocols resulting in another successful week. We feel confident as we prepare for a full reopening on October 5th. Below are a few updates and things to know.

  • Save Time and Money with free school meals for all: Breakfast and lunch are free for all students until December 31 or until funding runs out. Place orders for breakfast and lunch through the district website. Just go to the fork/knife on the right of the screen. Scroll down to the MS link. The directions are posted to help you through the process if you need them

  • The OSMS PTO is a vital group of parents who provide our students with extensive opportunities and support. The PTO is looking for dues, donations and volunteers. Please read the attached letter. PTO DONATION LETTER-9-23-20.pdf

  • Attached to this email you will find a letter regarding the use of GoGuardian in our district. This letter contains important information about steps to take to maintain privacy. Please read it carefully. GoGuardianFamilyLetter092220.pdf

  • Next week, Cohort One will be in school Monday and Tuesday. All students are distance learning on WednesdayWednesday will be a half-day for students. Teachers will participate in professional development in the afternoon. Cohort Two will be in school on Thursday and Friday while Cohort One is in distance learning. Friday is a full day. Students should be logging into each class on the days they are learning from home.

  • As you know, we have issued technology to all of our OSMS students.  To educate the students on how to use this technology in a safe, productive and responsible manner, the district purchased programming called Neptune Navigate.  As part of our PRIDE lessons this year, we will be delivering technology lessons related to digital citizenship, cyberbullying, social media, media literacy, digital footprint, privacy and tech laws.  This coming Wednesday, the students will log in and be required to watch a video, read articles and pass a quiz.  The first unit is on digital citizenship and creating a positive online presence.

  • Environmental Club: Are you interested in the environment and want to share ideas about ways to increase environmental awareness at home, in Old Saybrook, and at OSMS?  If so, then you should join the OSMS Environmental Club with Mrs. Evans.  Our first Google Meet will be on Thursday, October 1st at 3:30 pm. The code will be: EARTH.

Enjoy the weekend,

-Krista & Matt
