Good Afternoon Families,
We are happy to say we have had another Covid free week at OSMS. Below are several updates.
HW Club: May 27th will be the last day of homework club.
Water Bottles: Please send your child to school with a water bottle. The classrooms are starting to get warmer and we want the students to stay hydrated. We have water bottle filling stations in the halls so students can refill.
Phone Use: Please remind your children that if they do not feel well during school, they should go to the nurse. Students should not call parents from their personal phones during school. If they need to call home, students should use a school phone with teacher permission. There is a phone available to students in the office.
Promotion: Our promotion ceremony for grade 8 will take place on the last day of school on the morning of June 16th. We are working on three different plans to address the different weather situations and local Covid rates. In each scenario, each child may have two guests at promotion. If it’s sunny, we plan to hold promotion outside and all cohorts can attend at the same time, per the students request. If it rains, we will be able to hold promotion under a tent and have a few cohorts be promoted at a time. If there are storms, we will have to do promotion in the auditorium, but this will limit us to one cohort at a time. In all cases we will have social distancing, cohorting, and everyone will wear masks. Remote learners will be welcome to participate. Please note that plans can be changed at any time if Covid rates increase.
Other End of Year Activities: Each grade level is planning end of year activities for students. Please note that all plans are contingent on continued low numbers of Covid cases. All Covid protocols will remain in place during the activities. The PTO is planning a fun day for grade 8 students including music, fun activities, and time for the groups to socialize. The OSMS PTO is also financially supporting activities for the other grades. Teachers are working on plans for the grades 5-7 students. We are also planning a Step-Up-Day. This will be an opportunity for students to meet their teachers for next school year for grades 5-7.
Summer Programs: The district is offering some fun and educational programs this summer. Please see links below.
