Large RamDear Families,

We hope you are well and that your children are learning to navigate Google classrooms. We are so proud of the hard work that our students are doing. In addition to the content standards, they are also practicing many of our 21st Century Skills. They are collaborating, problem-solving and being creative. The learning they are doing will help them grow as students and people. Encourage them to keep up the excellent work. Below are a few updates that may help you navigate our virtual school.

· We are eager to connect with you. We want to update you on how distance learning has unfolded and hear from you about how things are going at home. We also want to collaborate with you to plan for the future. Please join us for our first OSMS Virtual Parent Advisory Council Meeting. All parents are invited to join us Tuesday, April 28, from 3:00-3:45 for a google chat. If you would like to join us, RSVP and forward questions you would like addressed to Christina Healey at [email protected] by Monday morning.

· Social media has been the only connection many students have with their peers outside of school-sponsored activities. The importance of kindness toward each other is critical for the mental health of all our students. Cyberbullying is against district policy and can result in disciple, but more importantly, it is harmful to others. Please talk to your child about the importance of using social media to promote kindness rather than mean behavior.

· Teachers at all grade levels have been providing students with opportunities for students to connect with each other and with them. Clubs, class meetings, and Google chats with teachers are all great ways to help students feel connected. Please encourage your children to participate.

· The teachers are providing many resources for students. Please encourage your children to utilize them. Teachers have also been updating their HW pages on the school website to help provide you with easy to access information about what assignments are due and when. The link below will bring you to the grade-level pages.

· With the medical and social situation that we are currently experiencing, some students may be feeling more stressed or anxious. Support staff are here to assist. School counselors, our psychologist, social workers, and school nurse are all available to families and students. They are seeking additional ways to support you. You can find our school counselors’’ emails are below.

Lisa Castro: Counselor for grades 6 and 7  [email protected]

Please stay safe,
-Krista and Matt
