Families, Staff, and Faculty,
We are writing to inform you of a cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, our Student Information System (SIS) vendor.
On Tuesday, January 7th, we were notified by PowerSchool that on December 28, 2024, there was unauthorized access to student and teacher data through their customer support platform and that Old Saybrook's data was included in the breach, along with many other school districts around the state and country.
PowerSchool has assured us that the breach is contained and that the compromised credentials have been deactivated.
PowerSchool indicates they do not anticipate the data being shared or made public and believe it has been deleted without any further replication or dissemination.
As we get more information from PowerSchool, we will share updates with you. We take the privacy and security of our students, staff, and families very seriously. Please be assured that we do not collect or store any record of social security numbers or financial information. We are closely monitoring PowerSchool’s response and holding them accountable to their commitments of transparency and security.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work through this together.
