Old Saybrook Middle School has earned national banner recognition as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School for its work in inclusive sports, student leadership and schoolwide engagement. From Unified PE and basketball to student-led activities and social outings, this program brings classmates together throughout the year. Coach James Hespeler and Unified Out and About Club organizer Michelle Marenna help create opportunities for students to connect on the court and beyond. Congratulations to our Unified community!
OSMS brought the whole school together Friday for a spirited Celebration of Learning. The afternoon celebrated summer learning and the start of a new year with games, raffle prizes, and staff skits reinforcing school-wide expectations. One of the best parts was the support students showed for classmates representing their grades, with plenty of cheering from start to finish.
Old Saybrook Public Schools students delivered strong results on the most recent Smarter Balanced Assessment, with significant gains across multiple grade levels and subjects. We are proud of the hard work of our students and staff and encouraged by what these results say about the progress happening across our schools.

Former United States Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona joined Old Saybrook Public Schools for Convocation and spent time with our Pathways Coordinators as the district moves from planning into implementation. His message about hands-on learning, student exploration and teacher ownership closely connects to the work underway across Goodwin, OSMS and OSHS.
We are excited to share that breakfast is free for all Old Saybrook Public Schools students! Every student is eligible to receive one free breakfast each school day at no cost.

Law Enforcement Emergency Response Training will be conducted on Monday, August 17, 2026, and Friday, August 21, 2026. The campuses for Goodwin School and the Old Saybrook Middle School (buildings and grounds) will be closed both days from 4:00 PM through 10:00 PM. The campus for the Old Saybrook High School (buildings and grounds) will be closed both days from 6:00 PM through 10:00 PM. It is important that no one be on the grounds at those times.
Reminder: The Old Saybrook Board of Education will hold a special meeting this Thursday, July 9, at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of a literacy presentation and discussion.

Congratulations to the Old Saybrook Middle School Class of 2026!
Today, we celebrate our students for all they have accomplished, the friendships they have built, and the growth they have shown throughout their time at OSMS. We are so proud of this class and excited to see all they will do as they take their next step into high school.

Due to the extreme heat, Goodwin School and Old Saybrook Middle School will operate on an early release schedule for Friday, June 12th. Transportation for Goodwin and Old Saybrook Middle School will operate under a normal early release schedule. There will be no change to Old Saybrook High School's exam schedule and the release time will remain at 12:15. A separate bus run will be provided for Old Saybrook High School students after the second exam.
Our Grade 5 students turned the paved pathways at Old Saybrook Middle School into a live marketplace filled with student-created businesses, storefronts, sales graphs, eco-friendly ideas, and elevator pitches. Main Street Math Live Marketplace brought classroom learning to life in the best way, with creativity, confidence, and real-world problem-solving on full display.
Old Saybrook students and the OSMS Band were proud to line Main Street and cheer on the Special Olympics Torch Run!
