Tune into Channel 3 WFSB tomorrow morning between 6:35AM-6:55AM to see our 8th Grade Executive Board making their news debut! Our High School Morning news team will make their WFSB appearance at the same time on April 28.
A big thank you to Channel 3 WFSB for highlighting our amazing students!
GO RAMS!

Wellness Day was a big success. Each grade had different activities including learning about suicide prevention, the dangers of vaping and drinking, Zumba, meditation, washing our hands, visiting an ambulance and others. All the students had the opportunity to play with goats. Please see some of the pics from the day! Thank you to all our volunteers and the PTO for providing lunch to our presenters.

Last week, 6th graders spent 3 days learning about and creating blackout poetry in honor of National Poetry Month. On Day 1, students analyzed examples of poems. On Day 2, with the help of Old Saybrook's Poet Laureate, Dr. Sandy Yannone, students created blackout poems. On Day 3, we welcomed family members to OSMS to create blackout poems with our students. Many OSMS faculty and staff also participated, including Dr. Bauchman and Mr. Drezek. It was a huge success! Poems will soon be displayed at Acton Library and some will be entered into Acton's Annual Poetry Contest.

First showing of Wizard of Oz was last night. The studnets did a wonderful job. We are so proud of them all. Thank you to all the adults helping the students prepare. We appreciate your hard work. Show number 2 tonight at 7pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Congratulations to Old Saybrook 6th grader Alexa Citarella, a 2024 CHET Dream Big! Competition winner!
Alexa’s incredible submission featured a video of her intubating a baby manikin while sharing her inspiring dream of becoming a neonatologist. Her passion, focus, and ambition at such a young age are nothing short of amazing.
GO RAMS!

Today, two eighth-grade students visited Goodwin School to speak with our fourth graders about OSMS. They shared some of their favorite aspects of middle school, giving the younger students valuable insight into what they can look forward to next year. The fourth graders also had the opportunity to ask questions, making this a wonderful and engaging experience for everyone involved.

This Saturday, several of our students participated in the 2025 CT TSA conference. Students completed in a variety of activities that tested their engineering, technology, and problem solving skills. We had several students who were recognized. Here are a few more photos from the event.

Congratulations to all the members of our OSMS Technology Student Association. Our students participated in several technology and engineering events and brought home plenty of hardware for their efforts.
Go, Rams!

This May, our very own Laura Barbato (7th-grade science teacher from Old Saybrook Middle School) will lead a research project funded by a grant from the Rockfall Foundation. The project aims to explore the impact of human activity on various sites within Hammonasset State Park in conjunction with the Connecticut Audubon Society. The grant will enable Ms. Barbato and her students to conduct field research, focusing on environmental changes and disturbances caused by human interactions with the park's ecosystems. Students will engage in hands-on learning, analyzing factors such as pollution, foot traffic, and habitat disruption, all while developing their understanding of ecology and conservation. The project not only enriches the students' scientific knowledge but also fosters a sense of stewardship of natural resources, encouraging them to become active participants in protecting the environment.
Good luck to Ms. Barbato and her students as they conduct this important work.

Here are pictures from our author visit from today at the Middle School with individual presentations for Grades 4-6.
4th graders walked over to enjoy their own session here in our library. The event was sponsored by our Library Media Center.

Yesturday, Grades 5-7 had the opportunity to go into a traveling planetarium that was set up in our gymnasium. It was a cool experience to be transported into space while never leaving our building. Please ask your kids about it.

Today is Wednesday, February 12, 2025. All schools and offices will operate on a two hour delay schedule today.

Our OSMS students got an opportunity to travel through the galaxy today thanks to the planetarium provided by Mobile Ed Productions. What a view!

Tomorrow night is the Channel 3 WFSB Girls Basketball Game of the Week between our Old Saybrook Rams and the Morgan Huskies. Let's pack the gym and support our Rams!

It's almost time to start singing! Let's hear those beautiful voices, Rams!

We are so excited to introduce Otter. Otter will be the second certified therapy dog coming to visit OSMS students.
A little bit about Otter: He's a lab mix, a rescue dog, and will be a sweet friend for our students. He already visits students at Goodwin and LOVES kids!
He will be be accompanying our occupational therapist Dana Kalksma to school some days. As with our other therapy dog Tucker, please let us know if your child has any allergy concerns or fear of dogs.
